My first steps into music
Tired of seeing me dangerously shake my head whenever I heard music as a toddler, my parents decided they had to bring me to a music school as early as possible.
Luckily my nursery school started a music project which allowed me to meet a wonderful teacher, Lucia, and to explore sound and rhythm freely. During those lessons I remember I also spotted for the first time this fascinating instrument with black and white keys which my music teacher would press with all her dancing fingers.
Lucia soon recommended me to a proper music school which trained kids through the Willems Method, a method that teaches music following the same natural process of learning our own mother tongue. Little did I know at the time that this was one of the best way of learning music.
Every week from the age of 4 until I was 7 I would go to a group class where my peers and I would learn to listen and recognise sounds and rhythm. Looking back I can say that the most beautiful part was that we were learning so much from each other, not just from our teacher. We were offered a free safe space to explore music naturally and instinctively through movement and our body. Singing together and playing rhythms together encouraged dialogue and collaboration… and without realising it we were becoming more and more aware of ourselves as individuals and of the music language.
My professional piano journey
I started my piano journey at the age of 6 with my beloved Maestra Roberta: lesson time was fun time for me. I felt free to express myself, laugh, be creative and experimenting with music.
At the age of 9 I auditioned for the Conservatorio “J. Tomadini” of Udine.
(FUN FACT: I initially didn’t make it into the piano faculty and so I studied the violin for two years… but very stubbornly auditioned again the following year and I finally made it into the piano faculty!)
I earned my piano diploma with the highest grade and honours under the guidance of Andrea Carcano at the Conservatorio “A. Vivaldi” of Alessandria (Italy). Here I later obtained my MA in Piano Performance with the highest grade and honours at the age of 22.
I attended many masterclasses held by Benedetto Lupo, Folke Gräsbeck, Roberto Cappello, Pascal Rogé, Bruno Canino and the piano duo Biondi-Brunialti. I also explored the world of the fortepiano with Bart van Oort and Gian Maria Bonino. In October 2010 I was chosen to take part in the Conservatorio’s project “study abroad” which allowed me to perfect myself at “Hugh Hodgson School of Music” (Georgia University - Athens, GA, USA).
After graduating, I had the pleasure and honour of studying under the guidance of Maestro Roberto Plano at the “Accademia Musicale Varesina”.
I placed in the top three positions in many national and international competitions. At the early age of 15 I also unanimously won the “Maria Grazia Fabris” Prize in Trieste with Daniel Oren as chairman of the jury.
I performed in many cities of North of Italy, Montgenèvre (France) and at the “Sala Petrassi” of Parco della Musica in Rome for the “Maratona Liszt” organised by maestro Michele Campanella.
Chamber music has a dear place in my heart as well; I worked mostly together with string players and in 2014 I collaborated with Austrian flautist Katrin Romako, with whom I performed in Switzerland.
I have been teaching the piano for nearly ten years, both to children and adults. In order to deliver an organic and entertaining teaching style I became a certified teacher (level 1) in Suzuki and Willems method. I also trained in Gordon’s Music Learning Theory at Music Tree School (London).
